The University of Florida – REEF in Shalimar, FL, envisions hiring an undergraduate student to work as Technical Assistant to Dr. Sunil Dwivedi, the Principal Investigator, in the area of Multi-Scale Material Modeling and Simulation.
The work involved is mathematical generation of mesoscale and finite element meshes with CUBIT software, pre-processing for simulation input file generation, post-processing and plotting simulation results, writing TECPLOT macros for making animation GIF and AVI files, converting X-ray Micro-tomography pictures to binary data for importing to CUBIT, etc. Some commuting within the local area may be required.
The initial requirement is 20 Hrs/week which may be extended to 40 Hrs/week during holidays and summer.
An undergraduate student, preferably starting junior year in Fall 2010, should have a strong background in mathematics, especially Geometry, Algebra, Linear Algebra, Calculus I, and Calculus II. At least one course in Probability / Statistics will be preferred. Previous knowledge in Fortran 90/95 and/or C/C++ is desired, but not required. Training will be provided, but the student is expected to come to speed quickly in the background of the project.
